Addressing Housing and Social Inclusion
Core Commitment:
Recognising that the house in which a child is born, raised, grows up and grows old in impact significantly in their life trajectory, Ade Oluborode BL is committed to being an advocate for policies that lower the costs of housing, while maintaining quality and safety standards.
To action my commitment, I will:
-
Advocate for access to adequate and affordable housing through increased public investment, supporting skills development and revising Central Bank mortgage deposit requirements.
-
Investigate the banking sectors involvement in the availability of credit for mortgages for first time-buyers.
-
Advocate for a more proactive migration policy. This would be done by actively pushing for the proportion of incoming migrants to have backgrounds in construction, architecture, engineering etc so that we, as a nation, have enough employment capacity to deliver on necessary housing construction targets.
-
Adopt tax policies and inquire into alternative building / construction regulations that reduce costs of building so that housing can be made available at a more affordable price.
-
Support legislation for a temporary ban on bulk buying of properties by investors which will stem the commodification of housing in Ireland.
-
Promote integration initiatives at the local and regional levels.
-
Support urban planning initiatives that address the needs of Ireland’s growing population
